Forever Fabulous

Filbert Steps Productions - 2000

Forever Fabulous, which originally premiered as the 1999 Film Festival entry Tiara Tango, stars Jean Smart as Loreli Daly, a banned and aging Miss Texas Gal 1969 whose beauty queen daughter (Jennifer Elise Cox) dreams of being makeup artist to the stars.

Loreli receives an offer to coach a pageant back in Texas, so they head out in a motor home only to have her boyfriend Lyle (Robert Wagner) choke to death on an artifical eyelash. Undaunted and unwilling to chance a delay, they keep him with them in the motor home and disguise him with makeup, wigs and a dress. This film is a hilarious satire coupled with an outstanding performance by Smart and a surprise ending that has the pageant being for drag queens.

Reviews:

"Jean Smart steals the show in this uneven but endearingly tacky dark comedy, and Robert Wagner delivers a brief but delightful performance as Lorelei's tango-ing, lounge singer boyfriend. Writer-director Werner Molinsky, an Australian native, has an eye for campy glamour and pays visual homage to various cinematic influences, including Valley of the Dolls and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." -- Alison Macor, Austin American-Statesman
