If Jean Smart Gets Killed Off on Fox's 24 She Wants it SpectacularBy Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel SmithSource: The National Ledger - 4/17/06
They're down to three episodes left to shoot of this season's 24, and Jean Smart says she'd "love to do another stint on the show, but I don't know if that's possible. I'm just thrilled I got to do the whole season -- although, they still may kill me, and if they do, I want it to be in a spectacular way where I take a lot of bad guys out with me." Smart's been relishing her role as breakdown-prone First Lady Martha Logan, who was initially inspired by outspoken Watergate wife Martha Mitchell. Now that we've learned the president himself (Gregory Itzen) is a traitor who must be stopped no matter the cost by Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland), the action is hitting an increasingly frenzied pace for all. Smart is looking at film prospects for coming months -- and getting offers to play celebrity poker. She has the role of a "preeminent professional poker player" in the upcoming feature Lucky You with Robert Duvall and Eric Bana. "I got to play Texas Hold 'Em and get paid for it," she happily reports. Since filming wrapped, she's been asked to participate in celeb poker tourneys, but hasn't been able to due to schedule conflicts so far. "It's sort of my new hobby. We were playing with fake $25,000 chips in the movie. It's different playing with real money," she notes dryly. "I feel like such an idiot, sitting there saying, 'Another $2? Gee … don't know.'" |
