4. Didn't the series originally have a different name?

Yes. The original name of the series (and its starring family) was "The Flagstones." The name had to be changed when it was realized that the "Hi and Lois" characters' surname was Flagston. The name "Gladstones" was briefly considered (and appeared on a number of sketches) before the final change to "Flintstones."
