The Flintstones: Wind-Up Wilma
30 minute television special, NBC
(October 4, 1981)
Synopsis:
While grocery shopping with Betty, Wilma nails a couple of robbers with a melon and ends up on the evening news. The news report catches the eye of the cellar-dwelling Bedrock Dodgers, who entice Wilma into trying out for the team in hopes of drawing fans to watch a woman pitcher. Wind-Up Wilma has no knowledge of the game, but is a big hit as a pitcher and is immediately offered a lucrative contract. Unfortunately, Fred and baby Pebbles start to feel neglected, so Wilma feigns an injury so that she can return home to take care of her family.
There is another brief appearance by Frank Frankenstone and his children. In this episode, Frank and Fred seem to be pals of sorts, and Frank asks Fred to baby-sit Hidea and Frankenstub. Artistically, the backgrounds in this episode look very much like pencil and charcoal drawings --- very different from what we see in the original series or most of the Saturday morning spin-offs.
